Consultant on Climate Adaptation Modelling to Support NITI Aayog

 In May 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz established the Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP) to expedite the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fulfil the commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement. The new collaboration framework emphasizes on cooperation through various platforms such as bilateral, trilateral, and multilateral initiatives. The focus is on jointly developing sustainable and inclusive capacity-building projects, addressing climate change, promoting sustainable development, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2022, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned GIZ with the implementation of the project “Support to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership” (GSDP Support Project). The project follows the objective to strengthen transformative approaches for climate policy and SDG achievement in Indo-German cooperation across three main work streams: Support services to the political partners of the GSDP; Climate adaptation; and localising the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).? 

The project is collaborating with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for the preparation of sector specific chapters in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) document and for setting up a Centre of Excellence at IIT Delhi for research in climate adaptation and resilience. The project is also supporting NITI Aayog in strengthening SDG localisation in the states of Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya. Under the project, NITI Aayog and GIZ are now collaborating to strengthen institutional climate capacities and application of modelling results to support evidence-based climate adaptation strategies at the national and sub-national level. The proposed activities are:

1. Supporting NITI Aayog for outreach and adoption of climate adaptation modelling results at the national and sub national level.
2. Private Sector Engagement: Identifying pilot measures on local adaptation measures in identified states
   
   

To enable NITI Aayog to execute the above tasks, GIZ, wishes to hire a Climate Modelling Expert for providing technical and coordination support to NITI Aayog, for interpretation of climate modelling results at the national and sub-national level, climate adaptation projectization, finance mobilization and capacity building of stakeholders. 

This assignment is only for individual consultants, participation on behalf of firms shall not be considered.
