Transcription and Translation of Exploratory qualitative research study findings 

Introduction

CINI is an Indian NGO, regarded as one of the leading institutions working for communities in India for more than five decades. Now, CINI will be implementing an exploratory qualitative research study for understanding the awareness and attitudes towards non-communicable diseases (NCD) such as high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes and cancer among different stakeholders in five districts of West Bengal (South 24 Parganas, Bankura, Purulia, Darjeeling, Kalimpong), two districts of Jharkhand (Dumka, Khunti) and one district of Orissa (Koraput). The study also aims to explore health-seeking behaviours related to NCDs, lifestyle practices, the factors influencing these behaviours, as well as to assess NCD-related services across different levels of the health system in the three states. The study will utilize qualitative research methods for data collection in regional languages, followed by transcription, translation, and thematic analysis.

Study Objectives:

The proposed study will assess the current situation related to awareness, attitudes, health seeking behaviour and the health services and schemes related to NCDs in select districts of West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. The specific objectives of the study are:

• To understand the knowledge, attitude and practices among communities related to non-communicable diseases
• To identify key barriers and enablers that influence access to health care services related to NCD prevention, screening, and management
• To assess the knowledge and perspectives of community leaders, panchayat leaders, religious leaders, SHG members and NGO partners on the importance of NCD prevention, screening and management
• To assess the awareness levels, the perspectives, current NCD service delivery practices, and challenges faced by frontline workers and health care providers in NCD screening and management
• To identify infrastructural, capacity and policy gaps in NCD service delivery
  
  
  

The study will employ a cross-sectional qualitative study design to understand the NCD awareness and services in the specified time and geography. The findings will support the development of Social Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) tools on NCDs. In addition, the findings will be shared with the respective state governments to guide planning and resource allocation for stronger NCD service delivery and capacity building. 

Methodology:

• Focus group discussions (FGD) with community members and frontline workers 
• In-depth interviews (IDI) with community members, health care providers, community leaders and self-help group leaders 
• Key informant interviews (KII) with health administrators at block, district and state-level

Purpose of the assignment: The purpose of this assignment is to transcribe and translate the study findings obtained through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), In-Depth Interviews (IDIs), and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). This process involves converting the audio-recorded qualitative data into accurate written text (transcription) and translating it into English for analysis and reporting. If required, the consultant or institution will also be responsible for translating hand written script into English. Price quoted should be placed accordingly. 

Specific task for the consultant/institution: 

The consultant/ institution will receive audios /hand written script of approximately 30 Focus Group Discussions, 90 in-depth interviews and 40 key informant interviews. These audios/hand written script will be in Bengali or Hindi or Odiya. Each audio would range between 10-45 minutes. The consultant/institution is required to do the following tasks:

• Transcription- conversion of recorded discussions and interviews in Bengali, Hindi and Odiya into written text verbatim
• Translation- translation of written texts from Bengali, Hindi and Odiya into English language
• Cross-validation of transcriptions and translations for accuracy
  
  

Required Qualification and Experience of the Consultancy Firm 

The consultant /consultancy firm will be required to have:

• Preferred experience working in similar assignments
• 5 Selected Organizations on the basis of preliminary screening will be required to submit a transcript and translation of a sample audio provided by the Organization for final screening
  
  

Duration of the assignment

The assignment is expected to take 10 days from the date of receiving the audios Application Procedure Applicants are required to submit the following:

• A relaxation of 3 working days can be considered for final submission of the Report beyond the stipulated duration as indicated in the timeline of the assignment.
