The organisation has played a crucial role in preventing avoidable blindness and promoting disability inclusion. Sightsavers India has conducted numerous eye health programs, surgeries, and treatments, reaching millions of people in need.
Sightsavers India is the technical partner to Agha Khan Foundation for the project ‘Schools2030 - delivering more inclusive education for children with learning differences and disabilities.’ The project goal is to contribute to Schools2030’s overall objective to equip young people with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values they need to become, contributing and thriving members of their societies in an inclusive way.

3. JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to State Programme Lead (SPL), with dotted line reporting to Technical Director, Education Directorate the Technical Specialist shall be responsible for providing technical support and ensure effective implementation of the project within the given time frame. The person will also provide technical and quality inputs to the Inclusive Education (IE) Project in Bihar which will be coordinated and executed under the Education Directorate of inclusive Education.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(A) Project Implementation and Management
(1) Develop technically sound and high-quality intervention to achieve the laid down objectives of the project which is in alignment with Sightsavers India's inclusive education strategy and up to date with current practices.
(2) Support in effective implementation and management of project and ensure achievement of set targets, activities and budget.
(3) Ensure quality of IE interventions through monitoring processes and adherence to quality standards of Sightsavers India.
(4) Conduct periodic review of project for budget, targets and activity completion. Take a lead in technical and quality review of all IE interventions.
(5) Responsible for IE project MIS data quality and analysis.
(6) Work closely with programme teams across demonstration locations to identify and generate evidence of effective interventions that have potential for scale up.
(7) Coordination for donor requirement with Education Directorate, State team and donor service team.
(8) Plan effective ways to engage with the community, capacitating them to support the inclusive education for children with learning differences and disabilities.
(9) Provide technical inputs towards material/module development, reports, process and other documents developed.
(10) Contribute to the development of the education portfolio of Sightsavers India through sharing good practice, providing technical input, and participating in organisation-wide education-related discussions.
(B) Training and Capacity Building
(1) Under the guidance of Education Directorate, undertake random assessment of training needs of project team, partners and Government functionaries.
(2) Build the capacity of project team to deliver high quality programmatic results that are in consonance with project and Sightsavers India inclusive Education strategy
(3) Facilitate the process of developing high quality training modules for different cadres of functionaries in Schools, Government and other relevant stakeholders to promote inclusive and innovative practices in education.
(4) Contribute to developing programme implementation guidelines / position papers / short concept notes for inclusive education.
(5) Ensure teams overall capacity in demonstrating field impact and in achieving project objectives through planning and implementing active on-going capacity building efforts.
(6) Identify technical resource persons at state and national level to organise training programme for project staff and stakeholders.
(7) Provide understanding of inclusive education and Sightsavers India’s inclusive education strategy and project to district staffs
(8) Contribute to the development of the capacity of Sightsavers India in inclusive education through providing technical assistance.
(C) Research, Evidence and Evaluation
(1) Under the guidance of Education Directorate and in coordination with PPRL, contribute the process of monitoring and review of Project.
(2) Work closely with the PPRL department in conducting programme evaluation at the grassroots level to assess how strategy and project is getting translated into action.
(3) Provide technical support to district teams with support from PPRL team in implementation of STAR tool.
(4) Keep up to date with existing body of evidence and practice in education at the global and national level.
(D) Reporting and Documentation
(1) Manage programme and financial reporting of the Project.
(2) Maintain high quality data through the MIS, analyse the data to come up with reflection points.
(3) Maintain repository of case stories, high resolution photos and beneficiaries’ data.
(4) Generate report and presentations and ensure timely submission as per donor requirement and at State and National level for various reporting.
(5) Prepare high quality programme reports specially for donor.
(6) Closely work with finance team in development of financial reports for donor supported projects.
(E) Advocacy and Systems strengthening
(1) Work closely with GRAPE unit in advocacy efforts being taken up in Inclusive Education and as per project requirements.
(2) Undertake advocacy initiatives as outlined in the Project for policy engagement and work towards achieving the advocacy objectives.
(3) Ensure project team has strong understanding on concepts of systems strengthening and support them in the process of systems strengthening.
(F) Strategic Alliance and Networks
(1) Identify relevant individuals and organisations in the field of inclusive education.
(2) Identify opportunities and establish strategic alliance / network, working relationship with key state and non-state organisations for convergence, coordination and resource pooling.
(3) Contribute to state, national, global discussions in the field of inclusive education as and when needed.
(4) Represent Sightsavers India wherever needed on state/ national / international platforms.
)5) Share / disseminate the work of Sightsavers India in Inclusive Education with relevant stakeholders.
4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:
Qualifications
Applicants must have Graduate/ Diploma in Special Education (Visual Impairment) along with a Postgraduate in Education/Special Education/Social Sciences /Disability Management
Experience
(1) Applicants must have minimum four years’ experience of working in Education/ Inclusive Education project;
(2) Prior experience of managing donor supported education project would be an added advantage;
(3) Understanding of educational needs of CWVIs and Children with learning difficulties related issues in inclusive education.
(4) Understanding disability and learning difficulties related issues and developments in the field.
Skills and Competencies
(1) Sound technical knowledge and experience of inclusive education, education for children with learning differences and disabilities.
(2) Excellent Coordination skills
(3) Good interpersonal & liaison skills
(4) Programme planning and organizing
(5) Good communication skills (both oral and written)
(6) Ability to work with minimum supervision
(7) Good training related skills including planning & organizing training, also as trainer for certain thematic points under IE.
(8) Good Computer skills with functionality in MS office (Excel/ Word/ Power Point) & internet
(9) Data tabulation, analysis and interpretation.
(10) Good report writing skills (in English)
5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:
Gross compensation budgeted for the position ranges from INR 8-9 lacs per annum. Please note that the offer made to the selected candidate shall be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and salary history.
6. TRAVEL: This role will also involve a fair amount of travel to the field implementation areas.
