1. POSITION(S) VACANT: Lab Technicians (LTs), Three Vacancies, The Union, New Delhi 


2. ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND:
 

The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is an international scientific organisation headquartered in Paris, France. Established in 1920, The Union’s goal is to promote national autonomy within the framework of priorities of each country, by developing, implementing, and assessing anti-tuberculosis, lung health and non-communicable disease programmes, as well as other public health issues.

The Union has been working to improve health for people in low and middle-income countries, by conducting scientific research, and working with governments and other agencies, to translate research into better health for people around the world, and delivering projects directly in the field, driving change to ensure the best quality care.

 

The Union Office in India provides public health expertise to the South East Asia region’s governments, civil society, corporations and international agencies on tuberculosis (TB) prevention and care, and tobacco control. It also conducts operational research, capacity-building programmes and grant-monitoring services.

About The Project:

 

The iDEFEAT TB Project is rolling out population wide TB Screening in the urban geography of Delhi using handheld X-ray machines and newer tools, thereby ensuring that TB cases are identified and treated as soon as possible and preventing the spread of the disease to other individuals

 

The project will implement a Population-level ACF package in densely populated urban settings to efficiently screen a population of approximately 500,000 persons.

 

The project activity will employ highly sensitive screening tests such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled ultra-portable handheld X-rays. 

 

3. JOB DESCRIPTION/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Lab Technicians (LTs) will be responsible for performing rapid molecular diagnostic tests, such as the Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT), on patient specimens and ensure timely and accurate reporting. Their key responsibilities include implementing and adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), supporting laboratory operations, managing data collection, and collaborating with the technical team.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
(1) Acquire expertise in approved newer diagnostics tests related to TB including NAAT and rapid molecular diagnostic tests for TB; Perform rapid molecular diagnostic and NAAT tests on patient specimens in a timely manner;
(2) Implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for TB laboratories, including SOPs for all laboratory tests, specifications for equipment, infection control, etc, to ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP);
(3) Provide support for all laboratory operations including regular MIS functioning, maintenance of lab equipment, logistics for various lab consumables, specimen collection and transport, etc.;
(4) Manage clinical and laboratory aspects of the lab, ensuring collection, recording and reporting of clean, quality, data;
(5) Provide monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual progress briefings and reports on TB laboratory to the project team;
(6) Liaise with and facilitate the technical team on all technical matters relating to the laboratory functioning;

(7) Conduct day to day lab activities connected with the newer TB diagnostics, ensuring quality control;
(8) Report urgently on all adverse events in laboratory functioning to the project team;
(9) Undertake any other job or task assigned by the project team.

4. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification and Experience:

(1) Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or equivalent/ relevant qualification;
(2) Minimum of one year of work experience in TB Culture and DST or Rapid TB Diagnostics;
(3) The applicant must possess hands-on experience in conducting molecular diagnostic tests for tuberculosis (TB);
(4) Experience of working with National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) will be an advantage.


Skills and Competencies:

(1) Good understanding of TB diagnostic tests and ability to perform them independently;

(2) Strong focus on accuracy and strictly compliance with prescribed laboratory guidelines and procedures;

(3) Able to manage data effectively and submit timely and clear reports to supervisors.


5. COMPENSATION OFFERED:

The gross compensation budgeted for the position is Rs. 35,000 per month. Project-related travel expenses shall be separately reimbursed.

 
6. DURATION OF CONTRACT: The incumbent shall be offered a one-year contract.
